Graphic Design Programs

Computer Animation:

This program provides students with the animation skills needed for employment within a variety of fields, including medical imaging, architecture, film, and commercials. Acquire the specific tools and experience needed to create high-quality animation. Upon completion of the program, students will attain the following:

  • Ability to create 3-D models in Maya software.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of animation and the differences between traditional and computer animation.
  • Ability to tell a story visually or create visuals out of text or verbal concepts.
  • Familiarity with technical terms and standards for translating digital media to various formats.
  • Understanding the various industries that use animation.

Computer Animation and Motion Graphics:

Three of the top skills demanded in the New York post-production community are 3-D modeling and animation, motion graphics, and compositing. This certificate, a new hybrid designed to meet the demands of the New York market, helps students develop the skills necessary to work as a generalist in a number of post-production houses or design boutiques. Students begin by developing skills in basic storyboarding and 2-D animation; move on to 3-D modeling and animation using the industry-standard software, Maya; and then, learn the fundamentals of 2-D compositing and animation for various uses, such as broadcast, Web, or commercial, using the industry-standard, After Effects. Students complete the certificate with one elective chosen from a group of related courses. The certificate is an additional credential for working designers or production artists who are looking to transition into the industry. The certificate is also relevant for students with no background in design, production, or animation who are looking to build basic skills before attending a longer degree program or continuing towards more advanced training. Upon completion of the program, students can:

  • Translate a script or shot into storyboards.
  • reate 3-D models in Maya software.
  • Differentiate between traditional and computer animation.
  • Tell a story visually or create visuals out of text or verbal concepts.
  • Understand technical terms and standards for translating digital media to various formats, including broadcast.
  • Use Adobe After Effects and practice creating basic projects with this tool.
  • Understand the fundamentals of design for motion and translate still graphics into artistic animated form. This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete six courses--five required and one elective.
