Visual Communications Programs

Computer Graphics Program:

This program provides students with the necessary skills to function as a graphic designer, illustrator, package or product designer, media designer, marketing or advertising designer. The program provides academic and hands-on training for creative people who seek an education that focuses on using electronic technology, advertising theories, layout, color, type, and illustration. The combination of conventional and electronic techniques, plus general education coursework, provides a balanced and well-rounded knowledge base needed to perform and communicate in visual communications and graphic design careers.

Game Design and Development:

This program provides education in principles and techniques used to create interactive 2-D and 3-D video and computer games. Students learn design software, modeling and animation skills, programming languages, networking principles, game engines and level design to create interactive computer and video games. Students can take courses in market research and business concepts related to video game and multimedia production and distribution processes. Also included are project management, communication skills and creative design throughout the curriculum to prepare students for entry-level positions in the game design and development industry.

Multimedia Design:

Businesses understand the importance of reaching consumers, which is why they invest in glossy interactive web pages, four-color catalogs, and animated CDs. This BFA program exposes students to various multimedia — including print media, web design, 3-D modeling and animation, and digital video and audio production to give them a broad knowledge of multimedia. All coursework simulates real-world multimedia projects that students can incorporate into their professional portfolio. Emphasis is placed on the integration of sight and sound and the practice in creating multimedia presentations from storyboarding techniques to final delivery. General education courses in the program helps prepare students to compete in the workforce by strengthening critical thinking and communication skills in addition to hands-on training in video production, computer animation, and interactive programming.
