Graphic Design at Westwood College Upland California Originally known as the Denver Institute of Technology, Westwood College was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1953. Over the years, Westwood College has grown and now offers degree programs in Design, Business, Computer & Information Technology, Healthcare and Industrial Services. Graphic Design Programs

Graphic Design and Multimedia Program:

This program prepares students for entry-level jobs in the graphic design and multimedia industry. It teaches students how to create designs to visually communicate in both print and multimedia environments. The program offers technical and general education courses that help students develop skills in logic, critical thinking, problem solving, and general communication. Graduates are prepared for positions as production artists, graphic designers, Web page designers, and multimedia designers.

Upon graduation from the program, students should be able to:

  • Create illustrations and layouts by using industry standard software.
  • Create and design Web sites.
  • Create and animate virtual objects in a 3D.
  • Design and create presentations utilizing animation, video, and sound.
  • Create and edit video presentations utilizing industry standard editing software.
  • Prepare digital files for pre-press.
  • Use hand rendered layouts and story boards to communicate and develop quality presentations.
  • Apply graphic design business practices toward a variety of business situations.
  • Professionally communicate as readers, critical thinkers, writers, listeners and speakers.
  • Build a portfolio, prepare for interviews, write a resume, and conduct a professional job search

Game Art and Design:

In this program, students develop their design, creative, computer, and problem-solving skills to use in this ever-growing field. This program is designed to offer a degree with these specialized skills in mind. The program offers students real-world, applied knowledge with a hands-on teaching approach.

Westwood's Game Art and Design program is designed to provide students with the ability to apply core knowledge of art and animation techniques for employment in the game and interactive software industry. The curriculum emphasizes 3D modeling, traditional artistry, and animation. In addition, a combination of general education and management courses assists students in applying their logic, critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. This program focuses on both game art and game design. Graduates are prepared for an entry-level position in the industry, and helps students to compete with graduates from other video game schools.
